Our Story

OPHID is a Zimbabwean non-governmental organization (NGO) that seeks to innovate, lead and implement public health programs and services locally, across the African region and beyond.

Established as a local Trust in 2001, OPHID has over 20 years’ experience in providing technical support to the Ministry of Health and Child Care (MOHCC) in Zimbabwe to implement quality and efficient health care services and development initiatives for diverse population groups, at public health facilities nationwide.

Our Mission

To strengthen health and development systems by working collaboratively with Government, communities and other key partners to develop and support relevant, sound, and sustainable public health policies and practices.

Central to achieving our mission of improving public health and quality of life of all Zimbabweans and across sub-Saharan Africa is pushing boundaries and building ‘next level’ systems, strategies and evidence-generation capacities within the communities, local organizations and health systems we support.

Our Values

People Matter

We are passionate about the pursuit of sustainable public health programs and systems strengthening in Zimbabwe and across the sub region led by local organizations and networks of affected populations. We seek to apply these values not only in OPHID programs but also to work together with our international, regional and local donors, partners and communities to support other local organizations to build the capacity, strategies and systems to go to scale for impact.

Integrity

We conduct all activities with honesty and transparency. OPHID always acts in accordance with the highest ethical standards through a dedicated compliance team to ensure transparency and accountability in everything we do. These are evident in our comprehensive organizational policies and standard operating procedures related to child protection, protection against sexual exploitation and abuse, among others.

We seek to understand and share the feelings of the populations we serve and ensure all programs and strategies are sensitive to the lived realities of all collaborators.
