Evidence for Impact

Striving for continuous innovation and optimization, OPHID has developed a highly efficient and productive model for embedded learning and innovation through our EVIDENCE to ACTION model.

Our track record of developing innovative systems that respond to donor needs and local realities have been adopted and replicated by health systems, program partners and donor agencies.

Together with evidence from our incubator projects, OPHID’s model of programming not only optimises performance of existing programs, but also established systems for the identification, testing, and scaling of NEXT LEVEL public health and development innovations.

Strategic Information, Evaluation and Learning (SIEL) is at the driving force behind OPHID’s evidence-based program strategies and drives our exceptional performance.

OPHID`s Global Award-Winning Data Intelligence System

Our SIEL approach drives for value addition to traditional data across several key domains. This is done through automation and advanced analytics. The data team reflects this thrust and is a mix of talented clinicians, epidemiologists, data and social scientist, computer programmers who share a passion for not just generating evidence but ensuring that evidence is translated into action and impact.

Key Achievements

We use cutting edge data collection, analysis and reporting methods to ensure that we spend less time entering and analysing data and more time disseminating it to those who need I and using it to improve lives.

Novel methods the OPHID SIEL team has developed and deployed include:

  • Use of participatory human centred design methods to co-design all of our programs and interventions so that they are context appropriate and meet the needs of frontline workers and individuals we aim to support.
  • Electronic data collection and analysis infrastructure at community- and health facilities that has been adopted by health systems, implementing partners and donors.
  • Geospatial mapping and analytics
  • Use of AI to automate analytics and reporting
  • Use of cost-effectiveness modelling and machine learning using ‘’real’’ program data to better project impact of our work, and optimize processes
  • Building capacity of lay health workers to digitally collect, analyse and act on data for decision making – work which has recently won awards!

We believe in local, regional and international academic collaboration with experts in their field for bi-directional learning and evidence generation.

Our Incubator Projects are core to OPHID’s Evidence to Action Model.  We seek to use the opportunity of our large scale Program implementation and big data to better understand our performance and design, test and scale evidence-based solutions.
